To practice medicine in the U.S. as a physician, you must complete a U.S. residency program, even if you already hold an MBBS degree. This is a significant part of the process. Here’s how to go about it:

  • United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE): The first step is passing the USMLE exams, which consist of three parts:

    • USMLE Step 1 (Basic medical sciences)

    • USMLE Step 2 CK (Clinical Knowledge) and CS (Clinical Skills) – Note that Step 2 CS has been discontinued for now, but you’ll still need to complete the CK exam.

    • USMLE Step 3 (Taken during residency)
